Rasheda Hussain joined the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) in 1978. In her long career as a civil servant spanning over 35 years, she held important positions in the Indian Government. She worked as Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise in Faridabad and Mumbai. She also worked as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance where she was responsible for examining proposals of preventive detention orders under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act, 1974 (COFEPOSA). She retired as Director General National Academy of Customs, Excise, and Narcotics, Faridabad (NACEN) where young Indian Revenue Service Officers of Customs and Central Excise receive their training. NACEN also organizes training programs for officers of foreign countries. She represented India at various international conferences related to training and capacity building.
