Dr. Mariyam Fatima, is currently a Postdoctoral researcher at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Hamburg, Germany. She completed her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD), DESY and the University of Hamburg in 2020. During her PhD, Mariyam was awarded the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) Fellowship. She has also been a recipient of University of Hamburg Subsidy Research Stay at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) for 3 months where she conducted part of her research. Her research interest lies in the field of spectroscopy and understanding intermolecular interactions in molecular complexes, as well as in instrument development.
In her research career spanning more than 6 years, Mariyam has acquired a number of different skills ranging from engineering, graphic designing and project management to team-work, efficient multi-tasking and stress management. She has presented her research work in more than 10 national and international conferences, and has many peer reviewed research articles in international journals. Last but not the least, Mariyam completed her integrated BS-MS from the Indian Institute of Science Education and research (IISER-Mohali) where she was awarded the coveted Kishor Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) scholarship for 5 years on her project for synthesising biodiesel from waste vegetable oil by the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and Indian Academy of Science, India.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cycling, yoga and traveling to natural places.
