Sumaiya is a medical graduate who worked as junior doctor at a multi-speciality hospital before opting for master’s in public health from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Currently she is working as Epidemiology Manager at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), a leading international humanitarian medical NGO. As part of her role she conducts operational research and carries out monitoring evaluation for the ongoing Mumbai based drug resistant tuberculosis project. With her passion in research, she aims to aid in the advocacy for the rights of marginalised patients’ community.
Sumaiya believes in gender equality and working for bridging the literacy gap in Indian muslim women is one of her long-term goals.
Besides her work, she loves to read books, write poems and engage in open ended discussions over new ideas with people from different socio-cultural backgrounds. During her pastime she can be found petting roadside cats.
